Country music has a long history. Under this heading we mostly mean the music that arose as a crossover between ‘mountain music’ (bluegrass) and the pop music of the 1940s and 1950s.
The acoustic guitar, the electric guitar and certainly the bass all play a prominent role in country. The acoustic is used mainly for rhythm strumming. The electric, think above all of a Telecaster, provides the twang and chicken pickin’, and plays many pedal-steel licks.
Country has many sub-styles, including:
- Outlaw Country
- Country Pop
- Country Rock
- Truck-driving Country
